Should we be talking?
Measuring our results
We believe the results of any programme should be measured on four levels:
- Immediate reaction - This would be through an agreed format for post module feedback. Pre-module information may also be gathered (sparingly).
- Increased knowledge, skills, understanding - At each stage of the process the improvement of each participant's knowledge and understanding needs to be checked in the module itself. Skills increase will be measured through role play and feedback on 'real life' application.
- Changes in behaviour - Other things being equal, if more people do more of the right things well the organisation will be successful. The key to the success of any initiative will be people doing things differently. Changes in behaviour should be measured regularly by the trainers, by the groups and by those leading the initiative in each area.
- More/better results than would have been achieved - The link between behaviour and results is undeniable. Exact cause and effect is difficult to pin down because of the time lag and the effect of other factors on results. Nonetheless we recommend regular feedback on opportunities generated and revenue produced (and defended) throughout the process. These should be against set objectives.
